Washington DC Project H.O.M.E. Presentation to Unity Health Care- May 28, 2008

"Now close your eyes! While I explain this relaxing sight. Envision new clients coming in to see the view. Not only do we hope it will inspire you, as you read. The young and the old will enjoy this visual excitement and relaxing vibe, while enjoying the peace and harmony. While waiting they can read and enjoy the day as they put all their fears and doubts away.

Now open your eyes. Internet information can be good but its nothing like researching it in a book. Artistically speaking, I will give you what you want. I'll give you what you need but first, we must begin to read..." By Bill Howard, Artist and Muralist, Ward 7 Arts Collaborative.

Greetings my friends. I, Sherry Ways, DC Project Coordinator of Project H.O.M.E. am back again to give you a brief synopsis of our meeting with our client, Unity Health Care East of the River.

On Wednesday, May 28th, I along with East of the River and artist, Bill Howard, met with several officials of the Unity Health Care system. Those in attendence were as follows: Naima Hashim- VIP Program Director, Audrey White- Director of Corporate and Community Relations, Jesse Langston- Health Center Director, East of the River, Bill Howard- Ward 7 Arts Collaborative Muralist and Tracey Harrison- Chief of Clinical Support.

We provided a slide show presentation of the design concept for the patient lobby area and the Key Reading Corner for children. The final mural concept was also unveiled for the wall.

The staff and officials of Unity Health Care were more than pleased with the results and approved of the overall design. In addition we were told of their are excitement about our involvement with the DANA Project H.O.M.E. Program! In addition, we have set a goal to complete the entire project by September 1st. We are going to also plan a ribbon cutting and interview with key stakeholders on the Design Scheme Interiors, LLC internet radio show "Inside Design" this fall on www.im4radiodc.com!

Other potential sponsors will be meeting with Unity Health Care officials and myself to discuss funding possibilities for the project within the next week. New sponsors will be announced on this blog as soon as they are confirmed. I just spoke to a book supplier today who will be donating 20 books towards the project in July or August this year!

Unity will begin to implement the design plan by first prepping the walls for the painting. Mr. Howard will then come in and draw a sketch and color plan for the mural. I will be meeting next week with the paint suppler, Eco-Green Living to order the paint colors. Painting could begin as early as the middle of June. Photos of the process will be documented as well as interviews with the artist and other participants!

Special thanks to Zandra Chestnut for photographing the presentation!

Things are moving quickly and we are excited about this truly collaborative effort!

Sherry B. Ways, Washington, DC Project H.O.M.E. Coordinator
